With Disney’s recent revamp of Star Wars, many have wished they could try their hand at a light-saber battle against a Sith Lord. While that is not an option quite yet, using a blaster during a competitive game of laser tag is a stellar alternative for all ages, kids to teens to adults.

But, is laser tag only for kids? No. Laser tag can be an energetic and thrilling activity for people of all ages. While older players may feel out of place with a younger crowd predominately playing the game, it is easy to schedule an adults-only match or take a few steps to make sure your games with the younger generation go smoothly.

Laser tag reminds us of the great games of army and cops and robbers we played as kids – but with added bright lights and elements of mystery. But now, it is a fun and unique way to get a bit of exercise while keeping our spirits light.

Can Adults Play Laser Tag?

Of course, adults can play laser tag! Although you may stick out a bit at first, it is a game that is phenomenal for all ages. When you first enter a laser tag establishment, take note of the vibe of everyone around you. Does the place seem to focus on kids’ games, or do they have adult-only games advertised, too?

By being aware of your surroundings, as well as where and when you go to play this spectacular game, you can have a great time without feeling too out of place.

Tips for Playing Laser Tag as an Adult

We all must ease into new situations with a little grace. So, we’ve put together some tips for how to get back into the laser tag arena after you are, well, an adult!

Don’t Take the Game Too Seriously

As you delve into the world of laser tag once again, you may find yourself among many children who live and breathe for winning competitions. If all of a sudden, you’re the cool adult playing the game with them, you have automatically become a role model for most of the kids in there. So, here are a few things to remember:

  • Practice good sportsmanship: If you get upset and lose your cool, the kids will, too. Then, no one is happy, and no one gets to play a second game.
  • Keep the language clean: Again, the kids will mimic what you say and do. Most parents will not appreciate it if you are throwing swear words around as their ten-year-old blasts you.
  • Respect their space: Laser tag is a wonderful game that all ages can come together to play. But, as you are one of the few adults running around with the kids, make sure you let them have their space, so they feel comfortable. Snipe them from further away, rather than getting close to them to take them out at a point-blank range.
  • Keep the teams even: If you and your buddies have been homing in your laser tag skills for a few months, make sure you spread the experienced wealth if you have a mixed game. It is not fair to join a game with younger, more inexperienced players with all of you on one team. Of course, they may be up for the challenge. If so, give it everything you’ve got!

With these tips, you should be able to play with all ages without a hiccup. We can’t promise you these tips will get you the win, but they will definitely make it a fun time for all.

Get to Know the Parents

You may feel odd being an adult amongst the children at your local laser tag arena. If you feel a little uneasy about it, chat up the parents before the game.

By striking up a conversation about their kids, your hobbies, and other things that make you an average adult, you can ease everyone’s suspicions about the random adult about to throw down in the arena. With this strategy, you may also be able to lure one or two more to play the game with you. And, as with most sports, the more, the merrier!

Not only will having these interactions make you and the parents more at ease about playing, but the kids will feel more comfortable blasting you out knowing that you’re a friendly person.

Consider Getting a Group Together

If all these interactions with the younger generations and their parents don’t sound like your thing, consider getting a group of adults together to reserve your own game. Many laser tag establishments have advertised adult-only game nights. Of course, if you have a birthday or other celebration coming up, you can throw your party at the arena, too!

Bring Laser Tag to Your Home

Do you have a truly dedicated group of friends who want to run off excess stress and energy through laser tag? Quite a few companies are making great at-home laser tag equipment. So, if you have some woods in your backyard or have the house to yourself for the weekend, have some friends over and DIY a laser tag tournament.

With this, you can cycle through free for all rounds and the move to team elimination or capture the flag games. By owning your laser tag kit, you can have more freedom of when, where, and how you play.

Why Laser Tag is For Everyone

Laser tag has been around for close to 40 years. This ingenious invention has allowed both young and old to enjoy the camaraderie of team play with a bit of stealth added in.

With Millennials wanting more adventures and experiences out of life, rather than more stuff, laser tag has been erupting in popularity, as explained by “Laser Tag Revealed.” As they spend their discretionary income on these things, like laser tag, the industry will only continue to grow. Along with this, the technology will also keep improving. This allows for better gameplay and smoother transitions.

Averaging between 8 and 15 dollars a game, laser tag is accessible to all and an excellent choice for your next get together. Laser tag even grew during the Great Recession in the early 2000s. That shows something uniquely special about the love of laser tag. It is something that calls to all ages, even when the times are tough.

Health Benefits of Laser Tag

Did you think laser tag was just for fun? Think again! Laser tag is quite physically demanding and will give you a workout. As you sprint behind obstacles and find yourself crawling, ducking, or lunging to avoid being blasted, you will start to feel the burn in your thighs!

If you or someone you know needs a bit of a workout, but the gym doesn’t seem enticing, try laser tag as a great way to get the blood flowing. Additionally, laser tag will develop your hand-eye coordination, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills, as well as teamwork with whomever you play.

Yes, Adults Can Absolutely Play Laser Tag

So, whether you are pretending to infiltrate an enemy base or wanting to be the last man standing, laser tag has a game for anyone. Many older players may feel hesitant at first to play a game of laser tag with the younger generation, but there should be nothing to hold you back. If you keep your cool and engage well with the other players, everyone can enjoy a fantastic time at your local laser tag arena.

Of course, you can always get the gang together and buy your own equipment, although you’ll be missing out on some of the unbelievably fantastic arenas that are available these days. So, don’t let your age stop you - get out there and get playing!
