Austin has a thriving music scene, with live performances happening every week. It has a reputation for being a place where people from all walks of life come together to make things happen—and this extends to paintball as well.

Not only does this city have some of the best food and entertainment in the country, but it also boasts an incredible number of paintball fields. There are several fields located throughout the city, so whether you're just looking for an afternoon of relaxation with friends or want something more exciting, I've got the top seven paintball fields in Austin below:

Austin Paintball

4150 US-290,
Dripping Springs, TX 78620
Austin-Paintball.com

Austin Paintball is perfect for players new to the game or who just want to play recreationally. It rarely has pro players, so you don't have to worry about skilled self-equipped players.

Their courses are super fun and woodsy, with a lot of different features that keep things interesting even if you're not necessarily an experienced player. Plus, their awesome maps make the whole experience exciting!

The staff is friendly and efficient—they provide all sorts of helpful information about getting started with paintballing before you go out onto the field. They also make sure that everyone follows safety protocols and etiquette rules when playing paintball in groups.

The rental guns work well, but it would be nice if they were maintained a little better—many paths were blocked by trees, and some structures were missing or broken down.

Lost Paintball

4701 Hilliard Rd,
San Marcos, TX 78666
LostPaintball.com

Lost Paintball is a great place for young and first-time paintball players. The staff is friendly and helpful, the rules are simple and easy to understand, and the courses are challenging.

They've been updating their fields and adding new challenges for players, including a variety of courses (five in all) with their own unique obstacles. The staff ensures players have everything they need: equipment rental (including masks), paintballs, food, and drinks.

The prices are affordable for equipment and paintballs, especially when compared to other fields in Austin. Their wooded paintball fields are fun for beginners or experienced players.

The only downside is that the maps are scattered with rocks, so you'll trip a few times every round. But this adds to the fun! Bring a face mask because, as other players have noted, rental masks are soaked with sweat and very stinky.

Desert Storm Paintball

401 Farm-To-Market 3219,
Harker Heights, TX 76548
Heightssportspark.com

The friendly staff will make you feel welcomed and allow you to enjoy yourself at Desert Storm Paintball. Even novice players are able to play without worrying about being singled out or feeling out of place.

The affordable prices and nice courses make it easy to bring friends along and have a great time together. They provide all equipment you need, including enough balls to play for a couple of hours with friends.

Some of their masks fog up during playtime, so I recommend buying your own mask or investing in some anti-fog spray before your first visit!

Texas Paintball

18300 Medina Vista Ln,
Jonestown, TX 78645
TXpb.com

The arenas at Texas Paintball are well designed and uniquely themed, with plenty of variety to keep things interesting. They also have a fully stocked paintball store where you can get everything you need or if you need more paintballs before entering a game.

The fields are well-maintained, so you'll never have to worry about tripping over anything like barbed wire or broken glass. There are buildings, cars, and even an airplane and helicopter to play on. The fields were very well maintained—no trash or cacti in sight (and I did see plenty of those at other fields).

The wait between each game was about 10-15 minutes, which is perfect because it allows enough time to get ready for each scenario without being rushed. The referees also did an excellent job at organizing the games and enforcing the rules.

This place is definitely worth checking out if you're looking for some good old-fashioned paintball fun!

Texas Ski Ranch

6700 I-35,
New Braunfels, TX 78130
TexasSkiRanch.com

Texas Ski Ranch is the best paintball field in Austin, Texas. It's not just a paintball field. It's a place where you can go water skiing, skateboarding, or axe throwing.

You'll have access to all the equipment you need for paintball—guns, masks, and barrels—and you can rent it all on-site without having to lug it around yourself. They even offer open play at limited times, so you can get your game on whenever you want.

You can bring your own gun and ammo, but only if you're using Texas Ski Ranch's paintballs. That way, none of the toxic chemicals used in other brands will get sprayed around on their turf. All paintballs are also made of washable paint so that when it's time to clean up after yourselves.

They even have an on-site restaurant where you can grab a snack or a drink while you're waiting for your turn at the course. Snacks and water bottles are included for each party guest, too. If you're planning an event for 15 people or more, they can even host it for you!

Xtreme Paintball

7415 Burleson Manor Rd,
Manor, TX 78653
Xtremepb.net

Whether you're a novice or a pro, Xtreme Paintball is the best place to play around Austin. You'll have fun whether you're playing with friends or just getting some practice in. The staff is friendly, and they make sure everyone feels welcome.

You can rent their equipment or bring your own, but either way, they'll make sure that everyone has enough ammo to play several games before they leave the field. The field has affordable rates and plenty of equipment, including rental units that are base model 98 Tippmann.

For $20, you get all of this and enough balls to play for a couple of hours with friends! If you're interested in playing more than once or twice, you should consider investing in a rental unit instead of buying one.

The area is slightly smaller than expected (it can seem crowded if there are too many players), but this helps keep the game from dragging on too long.

Outlaw Paintball

824 Grand Ave Pkwy,
Pflugerville, TX 78660
OutlawPaintballField.com

Outlaw has four fields with five 'maps' to play on, each with different zones where you can shoot from—so everyone gets a chance to be on offense or defense. Each ticket gets you the ride and 100 paintballs—the cheapest place I found to go paintballing in Austin.

Each map they have to play on is well thought out in design, so it feels like an epic battle every time. The teams were chosen based on experience and equipment, so everyone is evenly matched—even if you're a newbie!

And even if you're not into paintballing, you can still enjoy their pavilion and player waiting area, which are all covered by a roof, so it never gets too hot. You can also bring your own drinks and snacks.

The only downside is that they only allow field paint at their facility—you cannot bring your own paintballs or markers.
