California offers a wide variety of places to play paintball, from city-run facilities to private fields. The state has some great areas for beginners, while others provide more advanced challenges. Whether you're looking for a relaxing afternoon or an adrenaline rush, you can find an ideal location in California and its surrounding areas.
If you're looking for an action-packed day out with friends or family, these are the best places to go for paintball in California:
471 Kenilworth Dr,
Petaluma, CA 94952
Playland is one of California's top paintball fields. Located just outside San Francisco, this stunning facility has everything you need to enjoy an incredible day in the sun.
Playland has the best outdoor field in town. With four distinct arenas and a total capacity of up to 100 players at a time, it's the perfect place to host your next team outing or birthday party. You can bring your own equipment if you'd like—the Playland staff is always friendly and helpful.
If you're planning a trip to Playland, be sure to arrive early. The driveway is poorly marked, and many guests got lost there. This place is open during the weekends, but if you're planning on going during the week, you need to be with a group or have an appointment.
Their fields are also open during the rain, but the conditions are usually muddy. We recommend that you wear appropriate shoes.
125 Armstrong St,
Fairfield, CA 94535
If you're in California and you want to play paintball, there's no better place to go than Ballistic Ben's Paintball Park in Fairfield. This facility is suitable for first-time paintballers and people wanting a more intense experience than your standard paintball field.
Players can select maps based on their preferred skills, which will help them and their team conquer the game objectives. They have a variety of different fields—each with its own unique terrain and obstacles so that you can play on a field that fits your style of play. There are a variety of challenging maps, which are also great for all kinds of players.
You'll need a 30-day visitor pass to enter the park, but don't worry—they're available at the gate. Their friendly and effective protocol makes everyone feel safe while still having a good time.
2325 Cordelia Rd,
Fairfield, CA 94534
Fairfield Extreme Sports has a great selection of courses, including one of the largest indoor arenas in California. The field had much debris ranging from oil barrels, old cars, and various wood and metal structures.
The equipment is cleaned and sanitized before each use. It's vital to keep the players safe. They switch out the characters in the games every few hours, so everyone has a turn at being in different roles, and they rotate people fairly.
They have professional and friendly staff who enforce the rules to ensure everyone's safety. If you're taking a large group, we recommend paying extra for a private ref, as it will help provide an even more enjoyable experience for everyone.
24998 Co Rd 102,
Davis, CA 95618
Davis Paintball is an outdoor facility with three separate fields, including a new course perfect for beginners. The owner supports the local community by providing four rental packages ($160), including admission, rental of all equipment, and unlimited compressed air.
The course has several different types of terrain: woodlands, mud pits, and hills—it's a great place for parties and kids to get outside and be active. They also have rental equipment for beginners who aren't sure if they want to invest in their own gear.
The only downside is that some of the guns are a little dirty—but you can easily rent new ones if you need them! The masks are a little stuffy but still usable.
9391 Florin Rd,
Sacramento, CA 95829
Capital Edge Paintball Park has a wide variety of fields that cater to all kinds of players, from beginners to experts, and they have a friendly staff who can help you run games all day long. The course itself is well-maintained, with great terrain and variety on each field.
The fields have a variety of terrain, so no matter your skill level or experience with paintball, there's something for everyone at Capital Edge Paintball Park. You don't even have to bring your own equipment—you can rent it there or bring your own.
There are covered picnic tables for people not participating in games (so not everybody will be running around in full gear). They've got a food truck that comes by every once in a while, so if you're hungry after playing a game, you can grab a bite to eat.
The only downside is that they only use field paint, which may be a problem if you prefer to purchase your own paintballs or use specialty balls like splat bombs or foam balls (which are banned at most fields). But it's still worth checking out!
2 Eucalyptus Dr,
American Canyon, CA 94503
Paintball Jungle is the best paintball field in California, and for a good reason. Not only is it located in a beautiful Canyon, but it's also a quick drive from Los Angeles, San Diego, and Santa Barbara.
They offer two speedball courses: one designed for younger players and one for older players. Their field paint is of decent quality, though it can be pricey.
Referees will signal when someone shoots out of bounds. They will also signal if a player gets hit with paintballs when not wearing goggles. Players must bring their own paintballs to keep the rate of play fast.
The downside is that games go by quickly. The wait for the next game was often long, and the room was often crowded with people waiting for their turn.
1201 W 10th St,
Antioch, CA 94509
Located just a few minutes from the Antioch Marina and only a short drive from anywhere in California, Antioch Paintball Park offers a variety of options for players of all ages.
The staff at this paintball facility is friendly and helpful. They will teach you the paintball rules and help you find your way around the park with ease. They offer affordable prices on paintballs and offer an assortment of decent paintballs if you would rather buy paintballs from them than bring your own.
There are no bathrooms at this paintball park, so it is good to come prepared with toilet paper. Bring clothes that you don't mind getting covered in paint, as they do not offer any gear.
1230 Greenville Rd,
Livermore, CA 94550
American Paintball Park provides multiple outdoor fields where you can play mock combat using paintball guns with your friends or family members. You'll never be out of ammo, and you'll always have sufficient air supplies. Each game lasts at least 15 minutes, but there's no time limit to each game, so you can play for as long as you want.
They offer birthday parties for groups of 50+ kids on fields of your choice. Their referees are professional and ensure kids stay safe. Their staging area can host a group outing or provide some diversity from their routine.
While picnic areas at the park itself do not offer food for purchase, you can order food through an app called DoorDash (or a similar service) and have it delivered right to you. It's also possible to bring your own paint—though the store also sells decent fresh paint at reasonable prices.
7900 Vallecitos Rd,
Sunol, CA 94586
Sunol Paintball is located in Sunol, just a short drive from San Francisco and Oakland, offering a variety of attractions and activities for all ages and skill levels.
Don't worry about having to supply your own paintballs and gear—the staff at Sunol Paintball is dedicated to equipping you with everything you need to have fun here. The 10-minute games ensure that each person can play more than once during their visit; as soon as one team loses, everyone regroups so the fun can continue!
Birthday parties, bachelor parties, hangouts with friends—we recommend the park for any of these events. They have gear rentals (including masks), and prices are the same as in parks a hundred miles from here.
The only downside I found was the lack of restrooms on the site; there were porta-potties and changing rooms, but no actual bathrooms with running water.
Fairgrounds Gate D, 2542 Monterey Rd,
San Jose, CA 95111
Santa Clara Paintball is located in San Jose, CA, and features a large field with lots of natural cover and obstacles. They have a wide range of field sizes and styles to suit your group's needs.
New players are warmly welcomed by staff during orientation. Once you've signed up through the website, you can equip yourself by picking up a uniform and equipment at the store. There are different gameplay modes (such as capture the flag and zombie survival mode).
You'll be provided with a thin protective vest, goggles with a built-in visor, and a narrow neck strap so that you can play right away.
This field is close to fast food restaurants and other amenities, so you can grab a bite to eat before or after your game. It's great for birthday parties, bachelor parties, hangouts with friends, and other events!
2120 San Benito St,
Hollister, CA 95023
TAG Paintball is easily accessible from major highways and can be reached quickly anywhere in California or surrounding areas. The field is large and easy to set up, so games run smoothly without unnecessary waiting around.
TAG Paintball's latest design has split their playing area into three different spaces, so groups can choose their space depending on the style of game they want to play. They have everything you need for your next event, from well-maintained rental equipment to experienced staff.
The downside is that the experience can be expensive, but this is definitely the place for you if you're looking for a real battle simulation experience!
7400 Dusty Ln,
Modesto, CA 95357
Extreme Paintball Park is a great place to play paintball, especially if you're looking for something fun to do with your friends or kids. It's got a ton of different courses, and the refs are super friendly, but not too relaxed about safety.
Paintballs can get pretty pricey here, so make sure to bring enough cash if you don't want to leave empty pockets. They've got some great upgrades for your gun (like scopes), which is nice because you don't have to worry about running out of ammo during the game.
One negative part is the wait after check-in—you'll have to wait in line before getting into the park. There are also no woodsball games available here, so this may not be the right field for you if that's your thing.
3101 Steam Ct Building B,
Bakersfield, CA 93308
Wolverine Paintball Facility is located in the middle of town, so you can easily get there and enjoy good food before or after your game.
The staff will walk you on how everything works—whether you're new to paintball or have been playing for years. The rental equipment is also top-notch and comes with the option to add upgrades like a mask or barrel cleaner.
What makes Wolverine stand out is how cool, and professional their refs are. They know what they're doing and make sure everyone has fun while learning to play better. They'll even help you pick out your gear if you're new.
The only downside to this facility is that the turf needs to be remapped, but this does not affect gameplay at all!
34481 Ridge Rte Rd,
Castaic, CA 91384
At Warped Paintball Park, you can choose from various fields with various terrain, weather conditions, and mazes to create a unique experience.
You can spend a day playing paintball with 2000 paintballs for only $55, or you can rent an airsoft gun for $25 per day and additional rental fees for other materials. They also have unique courses for play, such as the haunted house, two-story building, castle, and village.
The only downside is that there's lots of gravel and uneven ground along the trail. It might not be the best choice for people who have physical limitations or don't like walking on rough terrain.
17081 S Mountain Rd,
Santa Paula, CA 93060
Stryker Paintball & Airsoft offers a variety of multiplayer scenarios and modes that are fun for all ages and experience levels. They also have maps that are great for practicing your skills independently or with friends. The staff is always available to answer questions, making the whole experience fun and stress-free.
The location is excellent—nearby are many restaurants and gas stations for lunch breaks. A wide range of equipment—from tents to chairs to tables—is available to rent, and the premises also include restrooms and barbecue grills.
While the chronograph on their guns is high quality, their digital display is not as accurate, making it difficult to read your gun's power level.
8643 Shekell Rd,
Moorpark, CA 93021
Whether you're a first-time paintballer or a seasoned pro, Ambush Paintball and Airsoft Park can offer you an exciting experience. Ambush has various fields spread out over twenty acres, including open fields, forested areas, and buildings.
There are helpful staff and safety rules posted throughout the park. It's clean, well-kept, and easily accessible. But what stands out about this place is the variety of equipment it has for people of all ages and interests.
The fields are very well designed and provide many challenging opportunities for vets and newbies alike. The park is clean and well maintained, with plenty of parking space to accommodate any vehicle.
You may want to pack a lunch, as there are no nearby restaurants. There are only Porta-potties, which may not appeal to everyone.
540 W Carson Mesa Rd,
Palmdale, CA 93550
Paintball USA is a great place to go if you want to play paintball around California. Their locations are clean and easy to get around so that you won't get lost or disoriented in the middle of a game.
Their fields are large enough to accommodate several players simultaneously and are ideal for both deathmatch and capture the flag games. It is easy to navigate the field because the company keeps a close eye on it, so you won't get lost while playing.
They have a lot of different games you can play against similarly skilled players, and they keep things safe by keeping the games well-supervised. Players can sit at one of the many tables or benches and have a break while they rest. There is also a local pizza place just a short walk away if you want to grab some lunch while you're playing.
A few minor complaints have been raised about the game's map and mask design. It's a bit hard to read sometimes, the pads smell bad, and some are scratched up.
31050 Charlie Canyon Rd,
Castaic, CA 91384
Combat Paintball Park has everything you need for a great day of paintball. Beginners and advanced players alike can find what they need to play here; the rental packages make it an ideal location for groups with varying experience levels.
Combat Paintball Park offers guests new visors, exciting tracks, and new protective gear. They have reasonably priced food and drinks and a wide selection of paintballs, masks, and other gear. Field staff will lend you an air tank, and referees are on hand to ensure everyone abides by the rules.
Some customers had trouble understanding the waiver signing process. It would be better if the sign-up form were more explicit about what information was required from each customer. Also, their weapons stock seemed limited—you might want to bring your own equipment if possible.
8900 McCarty Rd,
Corona, CA 92880
Situated on a gorgeous 20-acre site in South Carolina, SC Village Paintball and Airsoft Park offer players of all skill levels a variety of terrains and objectives. The park has many different terrains and objectives, including large semi-open fields with plenty of covers and close-quarter combat areas.
The refs are very friendly and helpful. They are good at describing how to play, and they work as a team to get you into a game quickly. The staff also has some cool maps you can use to communicate with other players, as well as advice on your gun and how to play.
When you arrive at the park, there's a check-in time of an hour, so you don't get to play until an hour later. The rental gear was messy and broke down a lot—bring your own gear if you can.
14881 Temescal Canyon Rd,
Lake Elsinore, CA 92530
Jungle Island is a great place to go if you want to play on a large, open field with plenty of obstacles and cover. As soon as you get there, you'll be surrounded by lush jungle foliage and ruins.
The fields are fun to play on and great for beginners, young players, and sometimes even adults. They have many different types of terrain, from canyons to cities and urban areas that mimic the real world. They have fun maps, exciting games, and affordable prices so that everyone can have a good time!
The staff is always looking out for our safety, the park has clean bathrooms, and they have a small parts shop on-site that sells batteries and accessories. Only minor maintenance issues: paintballs will get stuck in cracks, the guns are old, and the paintballs don't shoot far or accurately.
1700 Vandegrift Blvd,
Oceanside, CA 92055
The Paintball Park is located on a sprawling 100 acres of land that includes hills and valleys and many buildings and structures to provide exciting gameplay scenarios.
The park has picnic areas and snack tables so that you don't need to pack a lunch. The paintball field has multiple playing areas with varying styles. Some fields are open-field style, while others are obstacle-filled mazes.
The only drawback is that there aren't very many referees on the field during games, so you might have trouble keeping an eye on both teams at once. Also, the field itself is small and can get crowded at times.
9030 Somerset Blvd,
Bellflower, CA 90706
Hollywood Sports Paintball & Airsoft Park has a great location right off the five freeway, and it's easy to get to from anywhere in Southern California. You'll find the staff of this field delightful, the games exciting, and the place itself is immaculate.
You won't have to worry about porta-potties or muddy shoes at this paintball facility—there are actual indoor bathrooms, and the parking lot and playing field are paved. You can also watch your friends from an upstairs viewing area.
The paintballs at this place sometimes don't shoot very far, and the price of admission can be steep. If you bring your own gun, though, the helpful staff will lend you some paint or help you adjust your mask when it gets foggy.
1350 Warnock Dr,
Ramona, CA 92065
Velocity Paintball Park offers a great range of fields—from beginner to pro. Players can pick between open fields and wooded areas, so choosing your game mode is easy. They also have multiple fields with different terrain setups, so you'll always find what you're looking for.
Velocity staff are helpful and friendly and will help you with any questions or concerns while playing. Their fields offer walk-on opportunities for instant play, or you can sign up for a session in advance if you want to reserve a spot on a particular field.
One downside is that you have to become a member before purchasing their paint boxes.
1800 Wildcat Canyon Rd,
Lakeside, CA 92040
Giant San Diego Paintball is conveniently located just 45 minutes from downtown San Diego. It makes a great destination for anyone looking to get away from it while still staying close to home.
The staff members are very patient with children and make sure they understand the rules before going out to play. Each field has different obstacles, creating a fun experience for all ages.
The only downside is that Saturday can be a busy day for rentals, so make sure to call ahead to reserve your spot. Also, it would be nice to have a handwashing station installed since there are no facilities available in town.
The grass could probably use some mowing since there seem to be some weeds growing in between the lanes. But overall, everything looks clean enough that they don't distract from the game.
2891 Garden Hwy,
Nicolaus, CA 95659
Shooters All-Season Paintball is a great place for people of all ages to have fun, challenge their friends, and learn about teamwork. They have a massive wood field and a few fun speedball courses. They also have great maps to help you navigate your way around the park.
Management and staff are friendly, helpful when it comes to equipment, assisting with outdoor games, and explaining rules—making sure everyone understands what's going on. They work with Groupon to provide awesome deals for large groups of people who want to play together.
But there are some drawbacks: you can't use your own paint (even if you have your own gun and gear), so you have to rent it from them (which is fine because they have great rental packages).
Paintball is a great activity for people of all ages and skill levels, and it's an opportunity for everyone to have fun while getting in touch with their inner warrior. The best paintball fields have a variety of facilities that make it easy for players to enjoy their experience, including equipment rentals and free parking.
